National Innovation Council Launches 10-Year National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) to Fuel Filipinnovation
The National Innovation Council (NIC) marked a historic moment on September 27, 2023, with the official launch of the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) for the years 2023-2032. Under the theme “Reshaping the Future, Advancing Filipinnovation,” the launch signals a transformative initiative to drive innovation, collaboration, and engagement across all sectors for the acceleration of Philippine progress.
Led by NIC Chairperson President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., the launch event at the Metropolitan Theater brought together key members of the council from both the government and private sectors. NEDA Secretary and Vice Chairperson Arsenio M. Balisacan, in his welcome remarks, expressed the significance of the theme, envisioning a future where citizens can translate knowledge and novel ideas into market-driven and valued innovative products or services.
Approved on June 30, 2023, the NIASD outlines a visionary 10-year plan, defining long-term goals and strategies to enhance the country’s innovation priorities and governance. The document aligns with Filipinos’ collective aspiration for a “matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay” (stable, comfortable, and secure life) as articulated in AmBisyon Natin 2040. Importantly, it is in harmony with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, recognizing the creation of a dynamic innovation ecosystem as a pivotal cross-cutting strategy for sustained rapid and inclusive growth.
The NIASD 2023-2032 reinforces the government’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for entrepreneurs and innovation actors. It identifies five critical innovation enablers: the NIC as the governing body, policies, infrastructure, finance, and programs.
Developed through a collaborative and forward-looking approach, the NIASD drew insights from the academe, international experts, the business sector, and various government agencies. It is designed to cater to the needs of innovators at every stage of the innovation process, from ideation to commercialization.
